April, Prince, and tears

Dear April,

You have been a mixed month of crazy. Allergies, opportunities, and unexpected outings have all lead to a massive month of breaking the bank. I’ve been working late nights which means there has been zero fitness. April is really just all about morbid obesity…and debt. BLARGH!

prince

It’s really just time for an April update list.

  1. I got a new job! Holla!
  2. They needed me start right away which meant that I started working LATE! Most nights…plus I had to work on Saturday 4/16 for my old job (couple of hours) and Sunday 4/17 for my new job (similar)…so I worked 12 days straight. EXHAUSTION.
  3. As a result of all this working, I bought food (unhealthy & fast) and did not meal prep. There was no time for fitness….so all my clothes are tight and the scale scared me the other day. BLARGH!
  4. Working all the time means my house is a lair of filth….the RAT KING lives here. It’s sad but true.
  5. As a result of leaving my job, so so MANY unexpected expenses, outings, etc have just fucked my budget. It basically went out the window….and crashed into a million pieces on the street below.

Prince-memes-10

I’m super excited about the new job though!!! It’s the right move despite bad timing and I won’t be broke and fat forever so you know….Monday is a new day and I will start to pull it together at that point.

chapelle

I just wanted to drop by and say I’m alive…working non-stop with nothing interesting to report. Perhaps, just that Prince died and it was my first day at my new job and DEVASTATION. Also I didn’t know my new team well enough to blast PRINCE and be sad and say we should all drink at lunch…somehow I thought that might be frowned upon. I’m so sad as I type this….Prince, no! He played a few shows in Oakland not too long ago and I had a homie tell me in advance but I opted out of getting tickets because I’ve been so focused on my budget. REGRETS!!!!! I thought I had time! He was only 57! Anyways, rest in peace and power Prince, you will be greatly missed. I will leave you all with this jam and my favorite Charlie Murphy story of all time.

Sad bastard abrazos,

And so it begins….mid thirties

There’s a lot of change in the wind and I’m trying to hold on for the ride. I’m having some bumps with this new whole fiscal responsible thing but I’m really proud of myself so far. I’m trying to see where I’m spending, how, and when I eff up take it with stride and say “Ok, self…why did this happen and how do I get back on track?” It’s new and hard but I’m committed to making it happen.

My relationship is having some growing pains. There’s so much love but we’re trying to figure out where we both want to be in our next phase of life and if that’s the same…It’s really fucking hard. It’s crazy mature but it also sucks to really love someone and be uncertain that you’re on the same page. We’re trying to figure it out and keep the dialogue open and honest. So you have that…..

I’ve been in the process of applying for a position, and then I got an interview, and then I was a finalist. Now, I’m waiting to see what happens….I really do want it and am keeping my fingers crossed. Trying to trust that the universe has a plan for me and if it’s meant to happen it will happen. I do feel that my interviews were very strong and have little that I regret in terms of preparation or responses….so now I just have to wait….that’s hard.

Fitness has really been the last priority….I’m averaging like once a week if that…. 35 is supposed to be about finances and fitness so I need to really pull that part together. With interviewing, I didn’t have time to meal prep and was buying my lunch like a fool. This week, I’m back on it and prepared 5 healthy lunches. Tonight, I’m going to work out at home which is why I’m blogging (ACCOUNTABILITY). I need to get some fit in and hopefully it will help clear my head so I don’t dive head first into a pint of ice cream….which is better than alcohol.

Oh yea…I already did that on my actual birthday and it may have ended with me puking and drunk crying about being old….I was straight out of a movie…a sadder less glamorous Bridget Jones movie.

Bridge

Anyways, that’s what’s going on in these parts, Interwebbies…Hopefully there will be more to report soon. News that’s funny and hilarious and involves me working out. But for today is just Old Lady News about trying to keep it together and navigate my mid-thirties like a grown person….and not a Grey’s Anatomy character.

I haven’t written for the longest time….woahhhh oh oh oh…for the longest tiiiimmmme!

Dearest Interwebs,

It’s been a million and one years but your favorite lbg is still trucking along making bad choices and trying to pretend that I am a sophisticated grown up. A good blogger would of actually looked at the last time she posted and write a proper summary. You’re not on her blog but I assume you’re hear for the shenanigans, to feel better about your own situation, or to learn from my mistakes. Anyways, I’m glad you’re here to kick even if it is only for my 80’s references and love of Salt-n-Pepa.

Running

Since I typically write about my attempt to keep the sexy going on and running, it’s only fair we have a little update. I have to be the WORST SF Marathon trainee ever! Well let’s back up a bit. I headed out to Hawaii for my home girl’s wedding on May 20th. I had planned to run on Monday, Tuesday before I left and signed up for the Hibiscus Half on Sunday (while in Hawaii). Did I run on Monday and Tuesday? Of course not. I had a million of work things and trip prep – so yep, no running. I preceded to drink away my vacation, enjoy the sun, surf, and hawaiian pork err’day. I slept for 2 whole hours the night prior to the Hibiscus Half because I was out at the bars with my homegirls. Despite all that I got my hella tired ass up and tackled that bad boy in 2 hours and 14 minutes! Holla!!! The humidity was NOT my friend. I was walking to the race start from my hotel at 5am in the morning and the weather was so perfect until I had to run. The first 3 miles of humidity hit me hard but my body adjusted and I somehow managed. I was able to see the sun come up as I ran behind Diamond Head which was AMAZING. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this race even though you’re running on the highway for part of it (which is totes SKETCH) but you should knock it out at the beginning of vacay. I came back from Hawaii and this week have not run once!!!! SLACKER! I finally confided in my friend Heather that I just hadn’t hit a single training run this week and she was like WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? Apparently this is not the proper way to train for a marathon. Since I can’t remember the last time I blogged, you should know I did run a 15 miler in here and that is my longest training run as of yet. Today I ran 14.5 miles and it was TERRIBLE but I DID IT!!! Monday, will be all about bringing the training back and letting go of my party girl diet. The marathon is on July 26th so I still have all of June and most of July to get there. Prayers are being accepted.

HAWAII aka I’m poor and made bad budgeting decisions

I had an amazing time and I wish I could of stayed longer to be honest but with the Budapest trip/friend destination wedding coming up I just didn’t have the vacation days to spare. I do have to say that I prefer Maui over Oahu but I still had an amazing time. I spent more money than I budgeted so that REALLY sucks. I had a great time and don’t regret the extra spluring BUT I should have budgetted more. DAMN. This month will be pretty tight but as long as I just say no to buying lunch and don’t get crazy on the weekends I will be okay. Basically I need to cook and drink at home. I also applied for a higher paying job so there’s that but let’s keep that on the down low.

WORK…..sucks

This week starts Orientation for all our new frosh which means the next six weeks will be filled with crazy. They will all be pre-med or pre-business and their little hearts will break when they realize their test scores won’t meet course requirements and that we have 8 majors that you have to apply too (aka some of you will be denied entry). There will be laughs, new friends, panic attacks…you know Tier One Research Institution freshman shenangins. I will present, host small advising sessions, individual sessions, and cry everytime I look at my inbox to see another 20 emails from new frosh each day. There is a lot of fun to be had but generally you leave exhauseted each day and by the final week I’m just that lady that crushed your dreams and is running to the bar right after work.

EXHAUST

Speaking of work, this lbg needs to get her beauty sleep….ok, I need to finish my wine and THEN get my beauty sleep. I mean my freshman think 34 is ancient so hopefully I can pull a 30 with some water and sleep.

Night homies!

Oh and for your moment of zen

WEDNESDAY, I’M NOT IN LOVE AND OTHER CRAZY HUMP DAY STORIES

WEDNESDAY.

I FACE THE SEVEN MILER TODAY. IT’S MY FIRST LONGISH WEEK DAY RUN FOR MARATHON TRAINING AND THAT ISH IS CRAY.

SEVEN MILES ON A WEDNESDAY!!! WHO DOES THAT??? APPARENTLY ME AND PEOPLE THAT WRITE BLOG POSTS IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.

snozzberries

True story, in real life my handwriting is all caps block style letters. Anyways, today I have to run seven miles and will have to face that fateful piece of sidewalk that burned my ass last week. Well actually my right lower leg but you get the drift. P.S. my leg is finally getting bits of that nice purple-y shade. I keep debating whether or not to post my bruised leg. I mean it’s a badge of running honor, right?

cady-mean-girls-yes-gif

I’m going to run without musica for the first five miles to ensure I don’t wipe out again. Hashtag paranoia. I always laugh when I spell out hashtag it makes me feel so old and crotchety which I enjoy. The last three miles as I loop around the lake will involve some 80’s pandora.

Besides running I’ve been focused on the upcoming Mama’s Day. Holla if you love your mama!!! My mom is the best and I can’t wait to kick it with her this weekend. My sister and I are treating her to a little pampering with a pedicure on Sunday and probably some kinda of breakfast yumminess. Not gonna lie, I’m looking forward to having someone take care of my sad running feet too. I always think gifts that are activities ie pedicure, restaurant, movies, concerts, etc are the best since my mom has everything she needs and is impossible to shop for.

In other randomness:

  • I WANT TO MAKE THIS!!! YUMMERS!
  • Novela in San Francisco is my new favorite bar. Have the punch trio. I got tequila, white, and pisco.
  • I’ve been avoiding trying on bathing suits because BLARGH but I only have two more weeks until Hawaii!!! Hooraz so basically only two more weeks until this!

Alright kids, let’s make this humpty hump happen!

FRIDAY LOVE & HATE and the cray cray between!

MIZUNO WE’RE BREAKING UP!

No offense if these are your jam but yesterday I felt like I was changing my stride to avoid pain in my left foot and this morning my left knee hurts. BACK YOU GO! I ended my 5 miler a little early to be on the safe side and I’m glad I did. Anyways, I boxed up those jerk faces this morning and plan to get my booty over to UPS this afternoon on my lunch break. I’m requesting some New Balances in exchange and hoping that these will rock my running world. If not back to my clunky Asics but at least they get the job done.

20140915-081920.jpg

My allergies are crazy today. I just sneezed like five times in a row. Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the idea. I weighed myself this morning and I had a 1.3 lb gain!! HOW???? I mean there was a cookie, some popcorn, half a donut one day but I definitely watching my foodage this week. Sigh, the body is such a weird thing. Maybe I should actually measure myself. I was feeling super bloated this morning so maybe my body is hoarding water. No idea but seriously putting a damper on my aloha fit. BLARGH!

sunshine

Get away from me with your jello pudding! It’s making me fat! Dude, do they still make jello pudding packs? Those bad boys were delicious and apparently that’s where my 1980s mind went w/ visual weight gain.

I’m linking up w/ Amanda of the Fabulous Meet Me at the Barre for Friday Favorites with an EVIL TWIST!!!!

FRIDAY HATE HATE!!!!! The Evil Twin of Friday Favorites!

fridayblog

These are the things that are driving me cray to the zee this week and so for your reading pleasure, FRIDAY HOT HATE LURVE!

1) Mizunos as mentioned above they suck (for me!) and I have a slight knee issue from my three runs….Seriously!!! BLARGH!

2) Students that say “Oh this packet is a little crumpled” and then precede to pull sheets of paper that look like they’ve been through war. Nope, not a corner bent or even bent in half but full on crumple status as though someone made an airplane out of it and you have decided to now submit it as an official document.

sex-the-city2

3) That is take hours and hours to clean my entire casita but in a single night it can be destroyed.

EXHAUST

4) When people ask about my weekend and I say “Well I have an 8 mile run” and they immediately say “That’s terrible!”…..thanks for all the support.

5) Really old Deans that don’t understand racism…umm, yes sir…I think it may be time to retire. Bye, bye. We thank you for some of your non-racist service. Best wishes and enjoy this fruit basket.

Alright kids, I hope you have an absolutely fabulous weekend planned and manage to get all your ALOHA FIT in!!! We’re in this together. I will run and cross-train! Positive thoughts, right?

Run Livermore, Drink Wine, and Treat Yo’self

Livermore Half Completed!!!!

This course was beautiful even with those two surprise hills between miles seven and nine. I think my outfit choice was bad and not fitting given the weather but we’ll get to that later.  First a few photos of the race to entice you to run it next year!!! photo 1 I apologize for my poor photo taking skills on my hella sad iphone 4. The morning was cool which is always great for a race. You can kinda see the banner for the race in the shot above. The race starts and ends in downtown Livermore which is super cute and quaint. I’m really having a hard time figuring out how to dress as I run longer distances. I REALLY hate being cold and shivering my butt off before a race but I’m slowly realizing you have to suck it up butter cup and do it. Otherwise you end up full on sweat monster. Despite my 5 foot nothing status, I sweat like a man. I just hate shivering 30 minutes before a race…it pains me but sigh, guess I need to get over it.

photo 2

Here we are as we slowly move out of downtown and the suburbs and into the trails and wine country.

photo 1 copy

photo 2 copy

I wish my photos came out better but you can see the vineyards and rolling hills. It was super beautiful.

photo 1 copy 2

My awesome medal with removal straps so you can have a coaster to commemorate your race success!

photo 2 copy 2

We also received this fabulous little stemless wineglass for post race wine tasting! It was actual glass which did lead to a lot of glass breaking in the wine tasting area. That’s what happens when a bunch of possibly dehydrated runners start drinking 🙂 Not gonna lie, I can’t wait to drink from this bad boy at home and feel hella accomplished!

2 HOURS AND SIX MINUTES! GO ME!

(I had to use the ladies on the course which added 2 minutes – bummer – but given the hills and that, I’m stoked with my time. Oh yeah and basically taking the past two weeks off for “Random Birthday Activities.”)

photo 3 copy 2

You can see the wine tasting festival tents in the background there. All the good kids are stretching. I was drinking water and chopping on a banana.

photo 2 copy 3It was super hot after the race and I decided on a little BBQ and a beer to celebrate my race! Hooraz!

This was a super beautiful course and I will probably do it again next year if I don’t succumb to the San Francisco Rock N Roll Half.  I only have two runs planned for this week since it’s my “recovery week” and on April 6th my official San Francisco Marathon training begins!!! I have several plans saved on pinterest but need to sit down and actually come up with something useable/feasible. I’m really nervous about fueling, to carry or not carry water, and getting a running belt for all this crap. I feel like when you go from half to full, shiz starts getting real.

Alright kids, I hope you had a great weekend and Monday isn’t too hectic.

Sending much love and besos,

lbg

The Devil’s Advocate aka Target

The one nice thing about jury duty is that the courthouse is only a 30-40 minute walk from my casita. It is quite literally across the lake which provides for such a lovely morning commute. I was actually a good blogger today and snagged these photos for you all.

photo 1 (1) photo 2

Yesterday, I managed to hit up Target and get some household shopping taken care but it was an expensive little trip. Granted most of the items I picked up will last me and the boyfriend a considerable amount of time and sometimes it is better to pay up front. I’m excited for my run today and hoping the weather lasts through the day. I’m mixing running with errands today…I know so crazy.

My plan is to run to my pharmacy (about 1.5 miles) pick up my prescription and run back to my apartment building (1.5) and place my prescription in my mailbox and continue to do another 2 miles. I usually just run with my phone in one hand and my keys in the other so not quite sure how I will finagle the logistics but I’m not too worried. I am worried about running with water. For all the half marathons I’ve participated in (5 so far) I’ve never carried water. I have always utilized the water stations and that seems to work fine for me. However for a marathon, I feel like I should carry water which is a little daunting. I really don’t think I would like using those waistbands with water bottles attached…although that seems smart. I guess I’m leaning towards a handheld water bottle with a grip? I’m going to have to do some research on this matter.

OH YEA

In other news, I am so excited for my two races this month!!! I will be in Santa Cruz for the She Is Beautiful 10k in two weeks and after that it’s all about the Livermore Half on March 28th!!! Super excited for two new bibs to hang in my office and a medal for the Livermore Half plus a cute wineglass!!! Seriously, races for me are so fun and I usually run alone so it’s exhilarating to be in a crowd.

Alright peeps, I’m going to attempt to tackle some ish while I wait for court to begin.
